About Magic Moments

Every year, each MSHA Class selects a philanthropy to direct the majority of their support to. This year, our class has selected Magic Moments as our beneficiary. We are excited to continue the relationship with Magic Moments that was established by past classes. We were stunned by the moments they were able to provide children such as Lizzy, and we are very excited to support such a worthy cause.

More About Magic Moments

Founded in 1984, Magic Moments strives to provide happiness to children throughout the state of Alabama who are diagnosed with chronic, life-threatening illnesses.

Shelley Clark, a Birmingham mother, was continuously in and out of Children’s Hospital (now Children’s of Alabama), when she saw a television program about a chronically-ill boy whose wish was to ride on a fire truck. The story of his community’s efforts to make his wish a reality--right down to firemen entering his hospital room window via a hook and ladder truck--inspired Shelley. She, too, wanted to provide hope and joy to local children with life-threatening illnesses by turning their dreams into realities.

Around the same time, Buffie Marks, another Birmingham mother, had a similar idea to Shelley’s after having seen a national broadcast about a wish-granting organization. Shelley and Buffie soon collaborated, and with the blessings of hospital administration and a $500 grant from the Junior League of Birmingham, Magic Moments was born.

To date, Magic Moments has provided over 4,600 ‘magic moments’ for children in all 67 counties of Alabama. Magic Moments provides children with the opportunity to enjoy a family trip to Disney World, meet a celebrity of choice, or go on a shopping spree. They also facilitate on-going events to enhance the relationships between their staff and the Magic Moments families, as well as help to foster relationships between Magic Moments families.
